They’re back to school but if you’re like me, you’re still trying to figure out where summer went. With too many rainy days to count and a fall crispness already in the air, it feels like we’re owed a summer re-do. Seeing as that’s not going to happen, I’ve rounded up a list of mainly outdoor Montreal family activities September 2023 has to offer. So we can all soak up the sun and enjoy one of our city’s most lovely months with the kids.
Gardens of Light – September 1 – October 31
This annual fall tradition is an excuse to head to the Botanical Gardens to take in all of its beauty under the stars. Every day from 7pm to 10pm you can visit illuminated gardens including the Japanese Garden, First Nations Garden and Chinese Garden.

Jurassic World Live Tour – September 8-10
Life-size dinosaurs are coming to the Bell Centre during the travelling tour of Jurassic World Live. Get ready for a show full of special effects, larger than life herbivores and carnivores and pure entertainment. Two English shows are on the schedule: Friday at 7pm or Sunday at 3pm.

Rougemont Weekends Gourmands – September 9 – October 15
If you’re looking for an apple picking destination, look no further than Rougemont. Les weekends gourmands will be taking place throughout the fall with lots of opportunities to pick (pumpkins too), enjoy local culinary delicacies and to participate in family-friendly activities.
Just for Kids Foundation Stroll for Kids – September 10
This local non-profit is raising funds to purchase equipment and services for the Montreal Children’s Hospital through a fun event for younger kids and their families. Spend the morning in Trudeau Park in Cote St Luc participating in music, dance, sports, and arts & crafts with some favourite Montreal service providers. Snacks will be available throughout the morning with lunch provided by some of Montreal’s best including Bossa, Mandy’s, Arthurs, Pigeon and more. Fundraising is required to participate with a minimum donation of $250 from friends and family, with tax receipts available.
Sutton Fall Festival – September 16 – October 15, Weekends Only
A short distance from Montreal, visit Mont Sutton to experience the beauty of fall foliage and some super fun activities. The festival is free giving you access to hiking trails, obstacle courses, outdoor shows and a slackline initiation zone. For an additional fee, you can try mountain biking, zip lining, a zipline coaster (!), wine tastings and more.
Citrouilleville Opening – September 16
It’s never too early to start thinking about Halloween! This pumpkin village located in Saint Zotique, about 30 minutes from Montreal, is the perfect place to pick pumpkins, take amazing photos and navigate a corn maze. This year, kids will love the new bouncy castles as well.

Canadiens Home Opener – September 24
If you didn’t have access to the pre-sale, tickets to this Habs-on-Habs game go on sale on September 2. This kid-friendly game at 1pm features tickets starting at $10, with proceeds benefiting the Canadiens foundation for kids. All visitors will also receive a free snack for each ticket.
Geordie Theatre – September 29 – October 7
Kids theatre returns this fall with Other Worlds, a story for children 10+ taking place at La Maison Théâtre. In collaboration with the Summit School, the play delves into Utopia and how people can imagine their own version of it.

Monster Spectacular – September 30
Head to the Olympic Stadium at 7pm for a show filled with monster trucks, motocross and ATV races and plenty of thrills. Family packages are available in the 300 and 400 sections.
