September 2024: Montreal with Kids

Let’s hold on to summer a little longer. Even if the homework starts rolling in, and you reclaim your official title as carpool mom or dad driving kids to school and extracurricular activities, the weekends are still made for fun. In September 2024 Montreal with kids is the place to be thanks to an amazing list of festivals and special events.

Gardens of Light – August 30 to October 31

In its 12th year, the Japanese Garden at the Botanical Gardens is celebrated. Yûgen, a giant projection, displays Japanese culture and beauty, while the First Nations and Chinese Gardens will also feature special events. The Garden opens nightly at 6pm and Mondays and Tuesdays offer a 25% discount. Timed reservations are required.

Citrouilleville – Opens September 7

You know fall is in the air when this St Zotique pumpkin patch opens. From pumpkin houses to a corn maze to inflatables to special shows, this place has everything. There are also food trucks and a small petting zoo area. Pre-season tickets are on sale for $8.70 and kids under 5 are free.

Rougemont Weekends Gourmands – September 7 – October 20

Apple picking season is upon and Rougemont is one of the closest destinations to enjoy the harvest. Every weekend, the region will be hosting different events at the 20+ orchards, wineries, restaurants and more. If you’re looking for organic apples, here are my favourites.

March for Jerusalem – September 8

The childhood memories are strong from this event throwing back to the 80s and 90s. Make new ones with your kids by participating in this Jewish community event that is open to everyone. The 5.5KM walk ends with a huge celebration. Registration is $18 per person and fundraising is encouraged.

Jackalope Festival – September 13-15

This outdoor extreme sports festival is back, this year in the Old Port. The 3-day itinerary includes amazing athletes performing in competitions including skateboarding and bouldering. Kids 7 and under can compete in a pop-up skateboarding competition that takes place daily for a $10 fee. All kids must bring their own equipment and will win a participation prize. Admission to the festival is free.

Canadiens Home Opener – September 14-15

Hockey season is off to a start with a weekend of exhibition games, taking place Saturday and Sunday at 1pm. The face-à-face d’éspoirs event features both the Canadiens and Maple Leafs, with $10 ticket proceeds going to two great organizations. With IGA as the main sponsor, you know there will be tons of snacks too!

Mont Sutton Fall Festival – September 14 – October 14

For 5 weekends, head to Sutton to enjoy the fall in the Eastern Townships. Activities will include a giant zipline, zipline coaster, chairlift rides, free outdoor music concerts, hiking, disc golfing, mountain biking, and a huge equipment sale.

Kids Pop – September 29

Montreal’s Pop Festival brings back its kids edition with a day full of activities. At 10am Patrick Watson’s Sacred Sunday, is a free concert for kids under 18 and their families. Co-presented by the David Suzuki Foundation, at the Marché des Possible de Gaspé, it will include nature workshops. Other events will be announced soon.

Just for Kids Foundation Stroll for Kids – September 29

This annual fundraising event is switching locations in 2024, now taking place at Le Andover. It still promises to be a morning of fun, and feel-good learning experiences for young families. The event includes entertainment, music, dance, sports, arts and crafts, snacks, giveaways and more. A minimum family donation of $250 is required.
