Summer is here! Warm weekends, more time for exploration and every opportunity to soak up Montreal’s short-lived sunny season. This month is filled with fun family events and festivals for all ages. Keep reading to discover all the Montreal family activities July 2024 has to offer!
Montreal Complement Cirque – July 4-14
The circus festival is back in town for its 15th edition and includes multiple shows at TOHU, daily activities on St-Denis street and nightly shows (6pm and 9:30pm) at the Giant at Esplanade PVM. This festival really does spread throughout the city with additional events at Quartier des Spectacles, and a daily neighbourhood tour that will stop everywhere from Verdun to Saint Laurent to Pointes aux Trembles. Visit the event site for all the details of free and paid events.
Comedy on the Well – July 8-14
The Just for Laughs Festival may not be happening this year but Verdun is bringing comedy into the spotlight this month with its new festival. While many of the shows are just for adults, there will be free outdoor shows on Saturday July 13th which is also a great opportunity to discover Promenade Wellington. This summer, the pedestrian area features outdoor swings, pétonque games, photos opps, and of course, lots of great food.
Taste of the Caribbean – July 11-14
Another long-standing Montreal festival is on, now in its 25th year, celebrating the islands including Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Barbados, Guadeloupe and more! The 3-day event definitely features food but there are plenty of other activities including concerts, dance workshops, a rum zone and a kids zone. The latter will feature face painting and a small boats activity on the water.
Free entry, 12pm-11pm daily, Clock Tower Quay, Old Montreal
Petit Piknik – July 7 & 14
While Piknik Electronique has been taking place at Parc Jean Drapeau all summer, these special afternoons are just for kids. From 12pm to 3pm, families with children under 12 are invited to discover the world of electronic music. Aside from the music, there will be game stations including parachutes, soccer, tic tac fruitz and more. Plus lots of areas to relax in hammocks and eat at food trucks. They even offer noise-cancelling headphones for kids.
Marché des Possibles – July 20
This open air market put on my POP Montreal was always one of our family favourites when the kids were little. While it has been taking place all summer in Mile End, July 20th will be extra fun as Kids POP will be on site with plenty of activities and there will be a music album launch from MTL Sauce Piquant at 3pm. Expect crafts, food and a general family-friendly environment.
Free, 5705 de Gaspé
Rendez-vous Familial des Pompiers – July 20-21
Whether you’re looking for an active family activity or you have a firefighting loving child, this event is the best of both worlds. The event features a 1KM and a 5KM run through Angrignon park in Lasalle on Sunday. Throughout both days there will be face painting, inflatables, a BBQ, fire safety activities and an exhibition of antique firetrucks. There is a fee to participate in the run and kids under 2 are free.
Le Grand Poutinefest – July 17-28
This poutine festival has been travelling around Montreal and surrounding areas since April but it’s about to land in Old Montreal for an 11 day event. On the menu is obviously poutine, but there will also be live music, a 300ft long inflatable obstacle course (Thursday to Sunday), and lots of family-friendly activities.
12pm-9pm Monday-Saturday, 12pm-8pm Sunday, Clock Tower Quay, Old Montreal
Big Bounce Canada – July 27 – August 11
We’ve been waiting for this event to make its debut since last year, when it got cancelled. Tickets aren’t yet available so fingers crossed that it will happen in 2024. So what’s all the hype about? This travelling massive inflatable attraction features multiple structures that guests can visit during family or adult sessions. The family sessions are split into different age groups so everyone stays safe. Hopefully ticket sales will open soon!
